The other side of the island holds a bin full of wrapping paper. BOOKCASE The bookcase was made at the same time the craft island was built. Since it was a custom build, we were able to determine the exact size we needed to fit those big and bulky scrapbooks. I also store books, my jewelry supplies and ready to make gifts in all of those baskets. DESK This is the newest addition to the room. I have had a lot of request about the measurements of this desk and here they are: 97 1/2�� long; 36 1/2�� deep; 30 3/4�� tall. We purchased 4 standard table legs from Lowe’s. The table skirt is made from curtains found at Hobby Lobby. I love the skirt around my table because it hides all the stuff under the table. CURTAIN This curtain is made from an old window pane I picked up in Warrenton, leftover fabric and binder clips! Pretty simple huh. I had just enough fabric left over to piece together this curtain. I chose to hang the curtains with binders clips.

It is so fun when you find a look for less! I was perusing the Kate Spare website (before I went in to the store and had a not-so-happy experience…) last week and came across a necklace I thought I had seen before: Kate Spade Hang in There Glasses Pendant ($148)Glasses always stand out to me as I wore then until 10th grade (I had numerous pairs for all my American Girl dolls so we could “match”) so I started to rack my brain to figure out where I had come across a glasses charm… Suddenly, I recalled it was from Forever 21. This flattened bottle cap necklace is easy to make, cheap, and a good gift to give to little friends. It will only take you a few minutes, and you just need a few common supplies. The Last Necklace
I’ve been cleaning lately and found this green necklace of mine. It’s the last necklace I remember buying for myself in a big store (Coldwater Creek) before learning to make jewelry. It annoys me a little to see this necklace now, knowing how much I paid and how I could have made it myself for less. But instead of dwelling on that, I tried to remember the reasons I loved this necklace when I first bought it: The color green which matched many items in my wardrobe. The touches of silver. (My favorite metal at that time.) The gemstones. I thought “real” jewelery always had to have gemstones. The length. I usually bought chokers, but I found I liked having this longer (24″) necklace to layer over sweaters in the winter. The turtle beads. So cute! It’s asymmetrical. Nowadays, you see asymmetrical necklaces all the time but that wasn’t always the case. The hook clasp. I’d mostly seen spring-ring clasps before this.

Book Necklace for a Friend
Did you ever have an “off” craft day? Like, you make something the first time and it turns out fine, and when you make it again, it doesn’t turn out. This happened to me this week when I decided to make a book necklace for a friend who is turning 50 and also has just released a new book, A Summer in Oakville I thought it would be nice to give her this to commemorate both these events. I’ve made a couple of these before and they turned out okay. I made one for myself and then futzed with it and when I was satisfied, I made a couple for my friends. But this time? I made one, then another… and for some reason they were NOT turning out. I finally just walked away from the whole project and went to watch TV. Ugh – I hate just watching TV. But I needed to get away from the project because it was getting frustrating. Finally, I went back to it and it worked out fine. So…. ***shrug*** who knows what happened. My crafting mojo must have been off.

Not the Pearl Necklace I Had in Mind
Story Submitted by Lewis: Back in college, I tried online dating because I wasn’t too impressed with the women who were already around me, in my classes. They were immature, self-centered, and nuts. I had already asked two of them out, taken them both to dinner, taken them both on walks, hadn’t tried anything with either, hadn’t said anything (to my knowledge) remotely creepy, and they both said that I moved too fast for them. Shirley appeared as a suggested match, and I read her profile. Turns out that she also went to my college, but her profile essays made her appear a few clicks more mature than most, and so I wrote to her. All of her profile pictures were photos of her sporting a pearl necklace, which I didn’t even realize would become an important detail until later. She wore the necklace on our date at a local restaurant, and I asked her about it. She said, “I have it, guys want it, and they can’t have it.” I thought she was kidding, but she didn’t smile.

Posted at 02:04 PM ET, 05/05/2011 Probation for woman in identity theft ring case By Del Quentin Wilber A 27-year-old former security guard at Howard University was sentenced to three years of probation Thursday for her role in what authorities have called a sophisticated identity theft ring. Dawn Marshall pleaded guilty in March to a fraud charge in the District’s federal court. So far, Marshall and nine others have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from what prosecutors say was a long-running scheme that netted participants nearly $90,000. Prosecutors have said the ring victimized more than 175 corporations and people and opened about $1.4 million in lines of credit through scores of fraudulent transactions. In Marshall’s case, prosecutors said, she swiped information from a Howard University library sign-in sheet and used it to open credit card accounts.

Questionnaire in Kevin Ring Case Examines Lobbying Industry
The trial is expected to run through the end of November. Last year, the government’s case against Ring ended in a mistrial when jurors became deadlocked. Ring, an associate of former lobbyist Jack Abramoff , worked for Greenberg Traurig and later at Barnes & Thornburg. Potential jurors are asked in the questionnaire to answer yes or no to questions about the lobbying industry. Two examples: ��Lobbying is a necessary part of democratic society based on the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.�� And: ��Lobbying is paying off politicians and government officials to get them to do something.�� The questionnaire also asks about the prospective juror’s overall opinion of the ethics and honesty of members of Congress and their staff. Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle has set a status conference in the case for Sept. 2.

It might look a little plain inside the house… but with UV color changing beads, there’s a surprise waiting once you set out into the sun! Even though we used white shirts and color changing beads, colored shirts and colored pony beads are fun too. Make sure to slide beads onto the knit noodle in the same pattern you want to see in the finished bracelet. A few more tips: Using a T-shirt without side seams is crucial since the pony beads will not slide over the bulk of a side seam. But don’t worry! They are really easy to find in many different colors at the thrift store. You probably even have a bunch of them in your own house.
